The number of paradisiacal beaches gives you many options throughout the island of Koh Samui. For a more authentic experience, we recommend the northern part, where you can also visit the best-known fishing villages: Mae Nam, Bophut, Bang Rak and Choeng Mon. In Bang Rak you can also admire an enigmatic giant golden Buddha and the Nu Muang waterfalls.
The temple Wat Khunaram It has become the most famous on the island thanks to the mummified monk exposed to the gaze of visitors. In his lifetime, he was a meditation teacher and esteemed abbot, even predicting his own death. His veneration, however, is challenged by the large sunglasses he wears and the small shops around him selling expensive gadgets and pancakes.
The Bophut Elephant Park covers an area of 48.000 square meters, just a few kilometers from Fisherman's Village. Here you can spend a day on safari riding an elephant or admire and feed the species' babies. But there are also other animals to get close to: the island's working monkeys and crocodiles, busy in shows organized by professional trainers.
Il Buddha's secret garden It was built by a 76-year-old local farmer in 1976. Surrounded by lush jungle and rocky hills, it is adorned with sculptures depicting men and women in different poses, as well as various deities. In addition, it is the highest place on the island, so it offers impressive views. It can be visited with a guide in about two hours.
I fights between water buffaloes They are part of a rich tradition on the island. In fact, throughout its surface we find numerous scenarios where they are organized. There is no schedule or program, but the locals find out about all the dates decided spontaneously, also thanks to the repeated signs on the street announcing the proximity of the fight.
