Nell’immaginario comune le Bahamas sono un insieme di isole che si rivelano dei vari paradisi tropicali: spiagge bianche, mare da sogno e natura scintillate. Ma la verità è che questo arcipelago corallino costituito di 700 isole e isolette ha tantissima storia alle sue spalle, e in più possiede anche una città che è una vera e propria metropoli caraibica.
The place in question is Nassau, the country's capital, which stands out for being a city teeming with life, where you can take warm breaks in lovely cafes, clubs and restaurants and then go and have fun thanks to an exciting nightlife. But not only that, because here there is also history, art and culture, all framed by enchanting beaches that are exactly as we have always dreamed of.
Where is Nassau located

What to see in the city
Sea and beaches certainly, but Nassau is also worth visiting for the other beauties it has. One of its most lively points is bay street, the shopping street and also one of the oldest thoroughfares in the Bahamas archipelago. It will be like walking in a dream: the typical pastel-coloured local houses overlook this street, which convey the sensation of taking a walk inside a rainbow.
One step after another we get there Straw Market, where you can admire (and buy) curious straw objects. Among palaces with Palladian colonnades and English churches in Gothic style, you have the opportunity to visit theArdastra Garden, a garden populated by 300 species of animals that live in lush nature.
Per fare un vero e proprio tuffo nella cultura e nella storia della città, il posto ideale è il Nassau Pirate Museum che è ricco di ricostruzioni di battaglie, armi e suppellettili della vita quotidiana dei pirati. Altri musei interessanti sono il Pompey Museum, dove conoscere più a fondo la storia degli schiavi e della loro liberazione; il National Art Gallery, dedicato agli artisti del luogo e l’Historical Library Museum.
Poi alzate gli occhi al cielo per ammirare le vette del Colle Bennet: vedrete svettare nell’azzurro il Fort Fincastle, built in 1793 of limestone. The structure is exceptional, and furthermore allows you to enjoy a magnificent view that extends over the historic center and the port of the city.
To get there you will have to pass the Queen’s Staircase, vale a dire la Scala della Regina, costruita nella roccia tra il 1793 e il 1974 dagli schiavi e composta di 66 gradini. Infine, ricordatevi di fare visita al Parco Nazionale Retreat, il posto più verde della città, dove sopravvive una delle più ampie collezioni al mondo di palme rare ed esotiche insieme a tantissimi fiori tropicali multicolore.
Sea and beaches
Non si può fare un viaggio a Nassau without discovering the beauty of its sea and the grandeur of its beaches. Unfortunately it is impossible for us to tell you all about them, but there is without a shadow of a doubt among the most beautiful Cabbage Beach, un paradiso di sabbia bianca lambito da limpide acque turchesi.
It's worth dropping by too Cable Beach che sorge nella zona dedicata al divertimento: casinò, parchi acquatici, boutique, bar e ristoranti sono il ritrovo dei locali e dei turisti provenienti da tutto il mondo.
La spiaggia migliore per le famiglie è Jaws Beach, because it offers shallow waters which prove to be the best for the little ones to play safely.
Finally, a beach that has a name that says it all: Love Beach, perfetto nido d’amore per tutte le coppie in viaggio a Nassau perché si trova fuori dal centro cittadino, rivelandosi particolarmente tranquilla e non troppo affollata.
Quel che è certo, è che qualsiasi spiaggia sceglierete vi permetterà di rilassarvi sotto l’ombrellone, prendere il sole, fare il bagno, snorkeling, andare al largo per le immersioni e persino nuotare con i delfini.
