There is an island in Greece that could easily be the one where Robinson Crusoe landed. Is called Kinaros and it is a small strip of land in the Dodecanese, on the Aegean Sea, just 4,5 kilometers from nearby Leros, on the one hand, and the busier Amorgos, on the other. No ferry goes there. It is a still unknown pearl.
The island has only one inhabitant. Actually, one: Irene. The lady, originally from the island, had moved to live in Australia, but 20 years ago she decided to return to Kinaros with her husband, who died five years ago. Today she lives alone on the loneliest and most paradisiacal island in Greece. Once a week a boat brings her basic needs.
If you search on the Internet you will find: hotels=0, restaurants=0, ferries=0. Isn't it wonderful? Therefore, you cannot stay on the island of Kinaros or sit in a tavern and enjoy a good Greek salad and a glass of wine. You have to bring everything from home (and take the trash).
The name "Kinaros" comes from the artichoke that was once grown on the island. Today there is nothing left, but it is a perfect landing place for those who spend the boat vacation. You can anchor in one of the many coves on the island and reach the shore by swimming or with a tender. Once you set foot on Kinaros it is good manners to pay homage to Lady Irene - her house is right on the coast - and ask her permission to stay on the island, to enjoy the deserted beaches and quite rocky, to explore the surroundings (it is only 4,5 square kilometers) and take a walk in the hills (the maximum altitude is approximately 300 meters) or take a fantastic swim in the cool blue waters of the Aegean. .
