Play golf in the heart of bear land it is an experience worth trying for all fans of this sport. But the brown bears who wander calmly on the fairway to make the area so wild. Especially because there are some in the surrounding forests golden eagles, deer, wolves and even lynxes.
We are located in the north of Slovakia, in the golf resort Black Stork, in the protected area of Tatra National Park, registered in the list of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. Here it is also possible to come across some rare specimens of black stork (this is why the name, “stork” in English means stork).
This spectacular golf course is located in an area nicknamed “the Eastern Alps”, about 670 meters above sea level. Here there is such pure air that it is said that it was the favorite place of Austro-Hungarian nobles to recover from lung diseases.
But what takes your breath away is the landscape all around the camp. Unspoiled countryside, mountain peaks and fresh air, is played on a pitch dominated by the high peaks of the Tatra Mountains, which exceed 2000 metres. Playing golf in such a landscape gives you an idea of the atmosphere you breathe in modern Slovakia, with the triumph of capitalism over communism. Golf, a sport practiced by the bourgeoisie, is played on land where there was once a collective farm where potatoes were grown. Despite being surrounded by mountains, the field is flat, the first 9 holes extend above the Skalnatý stream.
The golf course is built around a hotel, but you can choose to stay in any hotel in the area.
In addition to playing golf, you can also practice a hike on Mount Lomnicky, at 2634 meters above sea level, from which to enjoy a breathtaking view over the entire valley. Daily excursions are planned to visit the surroundings and spotting bears and other species of wild animals present. In the Tatra Mountains, it is also possible to practice sports such as hang gliding and paragliding.
In Slovakia there are 28 golf courses but the scenery offered by the Black Stork is unique and unrepeatable.
