Bolivia, why visit it

We are in South America and Bolivia, even today, is one of the most authentic countries in the world. This alone should be enough to push you to think about organizing a trip to this distant land, but if we haven't convinced you yet, in the next few lines you will find what you need.

La Bolivia it boasts a gigantic biodiversity that ranges from verdant forests to sumptuous mountains, up to magnificent volcanoes. There is no shortage of architectural riches in the cities, such as urban centers full of charm and cultural interest. Then its infinite expanses of greenery which transform into a true paradise for lovers of trekking and excursions.

But Bolivia is also one of the most "remote" places in the Americas. Like Paraguay, in fact, it is landlocked. But it doesn't end here! Bolivia is also the most indigenous country that exists: it is inhabited by approximately 60% of the population of pure Native American descent. Finally, Bolivia full of world records.

What to see in Bolivia

We will never be able to tell you in one piece everything there is to see in Bolivia. But despite this we have made a selection of the most representative attractions, those things that once seen will encourage you to visit an authentic and surprising country like this even further.

Uyuni Salt Flats

Everyone has admired at least once in their life a photo of the majestic Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flats in the world. A place where it is impossible not to be impressed and where the sky seems painted and blends in with the horizon.

Lagoons with almost fake colors accompany spectacular geysers. Everything in these parts is truly surreal as it seems to find yourself immersed in a white sea, or perhaps to be among the clouds. It is not clear, because each of us when we find ourselves in the presence of the Uyuni Salt Flats experience different emotions and sensations. Despite this, what is certain is that this is one of the most incredible landscapes in the world.

Lake Titicaca and Isla del Sol

As mythical as it is extraordinary: the Titicaca lake. Just think that it is located at an altitude of almost 4000 meters. Located on the border between Bolivia and Peru, theSun `s Island, one of the largest natural and cultural monuments in the whole country.

Together withIsland of the Moon it is home to more than 150 ancient Inca settlements, but also remote coves and indigenous communities that have remained virtually unchanged over time. But the thing that will surprise you the most is the magnetism that the lake emanates, to such an extent that it is not surprising that many maintain that the ancient civilization of Atlantis flourished here.

Potosí, the highest city in the world

La Bolivia is a place of firsts. After the largest salt flat in the world and a lake located at an altitude of almost 4000 meters there is also what is considered the highest city in the world: Potosí, at 4.090 meters above sea level.

Here, in past centuries, it was full of silver. Today the mines are unproductive, but the past is still tangible thanks to the elegance of the colonial buildings and the magnificently preserved churches. In these parts there is also a very important museum: the National Mint, which offers an evocative journey from the rise to fall of a city that once called itself “the envy of kings”.

Madidi National Park

There are those who have indicated it as a true paradise: the Madidi National Park. But then there is no surprise: within this territory live 44% of the mammal species that occupy North and South America, 38% of the tropical amphibian species, almost 1000 species of birds and more protected species than any other park in the world.

A new record, therefore, which concerns a magnificent protected area that extends over an area of almost 19.000 km² ranging from the Andean peaks (which even exceed 5000 meters above sea level) to the lowland forests.

The most dangerous road in the world

Yes, you read that right: in Bolivia the bravest can walk what is even considered the most dangerous road in the world. It is called the Yungas Trail and it is the ancient road that leads to the Los Yungas region: 64 kilometers of dirt road with a difference in altitude of 3500 metres.

The most incredible thing is that by traveling along it you discover opposite climatic conditions: from the cold of the Bolivian plateau to the humid heat of the tropical forest. Nowadays it is no longer as risky as it once was, but in past years it was famous for being a narrow dirt road with very steep slopes, terrible precipices, rainy weather, decidedly limited visibility, frequent rock falls and the absence of guardrails.

La Paz, the highest capital in the world

Yet another record for Bolivia: that of having the Highest capital in the world: La Paz. Also located at almost 4.000 meters above sea level, it is a true metropolis, but which still keeps its entire past intact.

Discovering it means immersing yourself in splendid cobbled alleys and beautiful colonial houses. Among the attractions not to be missed there is certainly the Plaza Mayor of San Francisco with its magnificent Basilica of San Francesco, which is also the oldest in the city.

Then the Murillo Square where they stand out in all their charm Presidential Palace and the Palace of the Bolivian Congress. Equally extraordinary are its markets such as that of The Witches and the Central Market Robert Rodriguez. The first is the oldest, largest and most famous in the city and is full of stalls selling spices, natural products and artisanal objects. The second, however, offers travelers a greater variety of typical local cuisine products.

In short, the Bolivia is a country full of incredible wonders ranging from rainforests to reserves, passing through parks that extend to deserts, and then ending among the beauties of lakes and lagoons. A place that still remains true, untouched and highly amazing to travel to for tourists from any part of the world.
