When planning a long term trip there are many aspects to consider, among which the stipulation of travel insurance should not be underestimated.
Today I would like to tell you about what I consider to be the best travel insurance, especially for long stays, but also for those who practice certain sports.
Before leaving for the East I gathered as much information as possible, read each clause in detail and in the end I understood that for our needs it was best to choose Word Nomads.
In this article we will see why to choose Word Nomads, we will analyze all the coverage it offers, I will explain how to make a quote, how to request a refund, what services can be added and we will discover all its advantages.
World Nomads travel insurance
World Nomads is a travel insurance that has been specially designed by travelers for travelers. It is the best choice for anyone facing a long trip outside Europe, whether for pleasure or for work.
But it is also perfect for the more adventurous traveler, as, unlike other companies, it also offers coverage for many extreme sports.
World Nomads offers two main packages: Explorer Standard and Explorer. In the Explorer policy, the limits are generally higher or, in some cases, unlimited and offer greater coverage.
For any problem, emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day, 24 days a week.

First you have to write the country you will go to, you can choose from several options:
- one or more countries, example: Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.
- a continent, example: Asia
- Worldwide: Worldwide
Next, you have to indicate which is your country of residence and you can choose from more than 150 countries.
Then select your travel dates. Finally, indicate the number of travelers by entering the age of each traveler. Click on request a quote and choose the insurance plan you prefer (Standard or Explorer).
Before proceeding with the purchase you can add insurance coverages for extreme sports and valuables, let's see how to do it better.
Insuring valuables
In case of theft, World Nomads also insures electronic devices with a limit of 350 € in the Standard package and 500 € in the Explorer package: for the latter there is also a reimbursement in case of cash theft up to 200 €.
However, it is possible to extend the insurance to high value items. The Explorer package includes sports equipment, electronic devices and personal belongings.
With the extension of the standard version each item is covered with a limit of € 1,500 for all items and € 500 for the single item. While the Explorer plan has a maximum limit of €2,500 in total and €900 for the single object.
Remember that when making your claim, you will need to provide receipts with the purchase price of each item of insured value.
Like many insurance companies, World Nomads also sets some limits to be respected in order to receive reimbursement in case of theft or loss of luggage and personal items, so I invite you to read carefully all the terms and conditions of the site.
Extreme Sports and Activities Coverage
Unlike most policies, World Nomads covers a multitude of sports and activities. You can easily see which are covered, which require a premium and which are not insured at all.
On the Customize Your Policy screen, scroll down to "Make sure you're covered for all your adventures." Here you just need to search for the sport or activity you are interested in and see if it is covered and if it is included in the plan.
For example, if you type in "Boxing", you will see that this sport is not covered.
If, on the other hand, you choose "snorkeling", note that it is covered and included in the price, as the rate does not increase. Instead, try selecting "Ice Climbing: up to 6000 m" and, as you can see, an additional cost is added for"Premium Sports and Activities".
World Nomads: what you need to know
After looking at the basic things you need to know about how to quote with World Nomads and get the best coverage, let's go over the most important details to consider.
Advance reimbursement or medical expenses
In general, costs are advanced only in case of hospitalization. For non-emergency and low-cost situations it is necessary to advance the money and then file a claim.
In any case, before facing any expenses, it is advisable to contact the Help Desk.
It is also important to know that previous illnesses are excluded.
Liability
Another point in favor of World Nomads is the coverage for damages caused to third parties. Again, contact the emergency assistance team immediately to obtain their consent before incurring expenses. There are still some limitations and I encourage you to read all the terms carefully to obtain reimbursement. Find everything in the policy conditions in section 7 what is covered:
Deductible
A deductible of €70 applies for each claim, which will then be deducted from the total amount.
Please note: for medical transport by air ambulance in Nepal, the deductible amounts to €625.
Assistance
The World Nomads emergency assistance service is multilingual, but the complaints staff is only available in English or Danish. Customer service, on the other hand, is in English only.
How to request a refund
Requesting a refund is very simple, you can do it directly online by logging into your control panel.
Once you are logged in to the site, select the policy and press the "make a claim" button.
At this point, follow the instructions and explain in detail what happened, list each expense and attach all receipts and invoices.
You will need to provide your bank details to receive payment directly into your account.
I recommend filing a complaint as soon as possible, as it is possible to request a refund even during the trip.
