All the information about the 2016 London Marathon, the largest charity event in the world
La London Marathon 2016 (Virgin Money London Marathon), has reached its 36th edition which will be held on Abril 24 on the streets of the English capital.
Despite being a fairly recent marathon, it is one of the 6 largest in history along with those in Boston, Berlin, New York, Chicago and Tokyo. The number of runners from all over the world who participate grows year after year, and in 2015 there were more than 37.000, a true Record. Another London Marathon record is the best women's time Founded in 2003 by Paula Radcliffe.
This major competition is the largest annual charity event in the world, with a total of approximately $315 million raised and divided among 750 organizations.
According to regulation, athletes who turn eighteen on the day of the race can compete in the London Marathon. There are different ways to register; For the basic one, both residents and non-residents must apply online, and are chosen by lottery. The most popular is the charity ticket: you choose a charity to make a donation to and they will give the participant the bib number.
Another interesting method is the "Good for Age", dedicated to athletes who, as of January 2014, will have obtained a score lower than the established ones in their age group and which can be consulted on the site.
The other methods are for champions and associates of various sports entities.
The marathon begins a 9 a. m. en Greenwich Park in three differentiated areas according to their category, and continues towards the center of London bordering both banks of the Thames. During the tour you will pass through the Canary Wharf district, then cross Tower Bridge and reach the heart of the city. Here you will pass some of the top attractions including the London Eye, the Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and St. James Park. It is in the latter where finish line, at The Mall.
As required by the regulations for official 42 km long marathons, every 5 km there are refreshment points with water, energy drinks, showers and toilets.
