Not by chance Playa Blanca today it is one of the main tourist resorts of Lanzarote, one of the best known and most popular.

In this guide we will better discover the area of Playa Blanca, let's see where it is and how to reach it, how to move around the village, what to do, why visit it which are the best beaches.

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca Lanzarote

Playa Bianca is located on the southern coast of LanzaroteOnce it was a small fishing village, today it is a very elegant tourist resort with all the necessary services: shops, bars, restaurants and shopping centers. It stretches for about 9 km from Las Coloradas to the Pechiguera lighthouse.

Playa Blanca certainly offers the best beaches on the island, accessible all year round. It has a wide choice of hotels of all types. Also from the port of Playa Blanca you can reach the nearby island of Fuerteventura and the wonderful island of Lobos.

How to reach Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is located about 35 km from the capital Arrecife. The best way to get to Playa Blanca it is certainly with a rental car along the excellent highway of the island and through breathtaking landscapes. Alternatively, buses depart from both the airport and Arrecife, which take just over an hour to reach the south of the island.

Getting around Playa Blanca

As we have said Paya Blanca is a fairly small village, it can be easily explored on foot, thanks to its pedestrian paths, or by bicycle. In addition, Playa Blanca has its own bus service, number 30, which runs from one end of the town to the other.

What to do in Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is definitely a place to visit, both for its beaches and for its tourist attractions. Let's see what to do in Playa Blanca.

Marina Rubicón

It is the marina of Playa Blanca, very nice, full of restaurants, bars and trendy shops. On Wednesday and Saturday mornings they organize a market specializing in local crafts.

The Marina is the ideal place for a pleasant stroll through the elegant wooden bridges, very nice especially in the evening for an aperitif or dinner. Excursions to the Papagayo reserve and ferries to Fuerteventura depart from the marina.

Castle of the Coloradas

A small fortification overlooking the ocean, built between 1741 and 1744 to defend itself from the attacks of the invaders. It is located on the road from the marina to Papagayo beach, easily accessible from the center of Playa Blanca.

It is not possible to enter the fort, but it is worth a visit for the panoramic walk with a wonderful view of Fuerteventura, not to be missed at sunset.

Atlantic Museum

One of the most fascinating experiences you can have in Playa Blanca, it is a real underwater museum, perfect for those who practice diving or those who want to try it for the first time. Located 12 meters underwater, it is the first and only underwater museum in Europe to swim among the sculptures of the British artist Jason deCaires Taylor.

To visit the museum you must have a PADI certificate for diving at least 15 meters. If you want to experience the thrill of diving for the first time, you can get the certificate by participating in the basic course run by the museum.

Pechiguera Lighthouse

In the extreme western tip of Lanzarote is the Pechiguera lighthouse, reachable by a splendid walk, of about 1 hour and 20 starting from the tourist port.

The lighthouse is nothing special, but the walk is absolutely worth it, spectacular views and lots of nature. It can also be reached by bicycle in about 40 minutes.

Los Charcones

In the Los Charcones area there are natural pools that have been created between the ocean and the volcanic rocks. A spectacular place away from the most touristic places. The road to reach it is not the best, bumpy and full of holes, better if you have an off-road vehicle but with a little attention you can also travel with a normal car.

The landscape is wonderful, a surreal atmosphere, it almost seems to be in a post apocalyptic scenario, also because of the dilapidated hotel. Be careful to go down the cliff, avoid too windy days, check the tides and enjoy this show!

Excursion To Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is only 30 minutes by ferry from Playa Blanca, so a one or more day trip to discover the enchanting island is particularly recommended.
