People gather for the party already in the afternoon, little by little friends join their group until the streets fill up and the party begins to pulsate with energy. You can join one of these groups without any problems and walk some streets in the neighborhood or stay in the same place all night, with the certainty that fun is guaranteed. Some street groups will sell shirts or t-shirts to those who want to join as members, but the vast majority just have a desire to join for the party. All of this is absolutely free!
More than three hundred neighborhood blocks are expected to hit the streets during the Rio de Janeiro Carnival again in 2020, so there will be several in the vicinity of your Rio de Janeiro accommodation as well. The biggest street performance takes place on Avenida Rio Branco, in the city center area. From Saturday to Tuesday you can see the widest variety of street parties, and this is where the positive vibes of carnival reach their peak, with the performance of more traditional groups.
