The city of Icod de los Vinos, where is it?
The town of Icod de los Vinos, a few kilometers from the most famous tourist resort of Puerto della Cruz, is a small and charming town located in the north of the island of Tenerife, and famous for its"dragon millennium", the largest and oldest dracaena plant in the world. In addition to the Millenary Dragon, the town is home to another important tourist attraction, the butterfly garden. Mariposaio del Drago, which presents specimens of exotic butterflies of all kinds, to be admired in the splendid landscape of a tropical garden.
The Butterfly Farm
Managing this beautiful garden with butterflies from all corners of the earth is a great challenge. It is necessary to maintain a constant temperature between 22 ° and 28 ° and an air humidity of 80%. Inside there is also a butterfly breeding study center where it is possible to closely observe all phases of butterfly metamorphosis, from eggs to caterpillars, through the chrysalis to the birth of the butterfly.
Mariposaio del Drago hosts butterflies from all over the world. A remarkable diversity of species, ranging from the smallest butterfly with a wingspan of 2 cm to a wingspan of 30 cm.
The butterfly garden is free to explore. The entrance is through a double entrance gate to prevent the butterflies from escaping. The butterflies present are truly innumerable, more than 800 free butterflies from tropical regions all over the world. There are many different species from various zoos around the world including Africa, Malaysia, South America, Thailand, New Guinea, Costa Rica, Philippines and other places.
Butterflies are most lively on mild, sunny days with little wind because they need the warmth of the sun to aid digestion. On rainy days they usually hide among flowers and leaves.
For butterflies to land on us, one should wear a light floral scent and bright or white clothing. Caution, butterflies should not be touched as their sensitive wings can be damaged by the oil present on human skin.
Many species of adult butterflies live only a week or two, during which time they have to give birth to a new generation of butterflies. However, some species, such as the monarch butterfly family, can live up to six months or more.
Before leaving for the park for your visit , do not forget your camera or video camera. Inside you can take pictures and videos with very rare butterflies that are difficult to find outdoors. A unique experience that offers many emotions and memories.
