Total relaxation in the Saxon Switzerland, with its National Park which offers romantic places, breathtaking views, history and paths that have inspired great artists.
There are places that we choose for our holidays that are full of different stimuli. They require constant travel, by car, subway or on foot, in search of exhibitions, historic buildings or anything else. However, there are places that provide one slow holiday, with a measured rhythm, which has the benefit of filling the gaze with dreamlike panoramas, regenerating the mind and the entire organism.
One of the definitely recommended destinations to kick off a 'rebirth' process is undoubtedly Saxon Switzerland, whose National Park it offers glimpses of overwhelming and unexpected beauty. Visitors will have approx 1.200 kilometers of trails, which lead through narrow gorges, forests and mystical places worthy of a cinematic setting. Walk with your head held high, getting lost among the branches and mountain peaks, until you reach panoramic views that will take your breath away.
Recommended is a small village, located in the heart of the Park, the Organic and national park refuge Schmilka, nestled on the bank of the Elbe. The decidedly more tourist attraction is the bastion, that is, a rock formation that offers visitors the most famous view in all of Saxon Switzerland. Here it will be possible to cross the suggestive Basteibrucke, a stone bridge from 1851, near the Felsenburg Neurathe, an archaeological site that preserves the remains of the largest fortress ever built in this region, dating back to 1200. What is visible today of the ancient castle has been transformed into a real open-air museum.
As mentioned, this is a type of slow holiday, spent walking, with no obligation to cover every proposed itinerary. Experiencing certain places like stages of a marathon, in order to be able to boast the greatest number of attractions covered, is perhaps the wrong way to approach certain magical places. That said, it's impossible not to recommend the Lilienstein, that is, the most important flat-crested mountain in Saxon Switzerland and, especially in autumn, the jagged peaks of Schrammsteine.
Un ideal place for families and couples, with the latter irremediably attracted to the famous man Path of the Romantic Painters, which unravels for 118 kilometres, starting from Pirna. Eight stops in total, in an itinerary that will lead tourists through evocative places in the park, capable of inspiring artists such as Caspar David Friedrich e Bernard Bellotto.
