Roger Federer is the protagonist of a video together with the cinema legend and Oscar winner, Robert De Niro, who refuses Federer's invitation to take part in a film about Switzerland.
For some time, the Swiss Tourist Board has relied on the face of the well-known tennis champion to promote its territory, so much so that it has created a section on the official website entitled "Roger's Choice, in which pillowcases gives advice on excursions to do in the nature, in the mountains, along the waterways and even on what to visit Swiss cities, including some "hidden gems".
After all, who better than the "king of tennis" to talk about his land, his mountains and his lakes? Born in Basel, Federer has never hidden his strong connection with his country of origin, although the work he does leads him to be a bit of a citizen of the world. But, between one tournament and another, Roger always returns to his base: Wollerau, in the Canton of Schwyz.
In the video, Federer tries in every way to convince De Niro to participate in a film project about Switzerland. But the actor stands him up. De Niro does not doubt that Switzerland offers uncontaminated nature and absolutely beautiful landscapes, but he claims that he lacks "pathos", a key element of his acting.
In fact, the actor was very happy to respond to Federer's request for help and admitted that he couldn't wait to discover the natural beauty of Switzerland, "maybe together with Roger".
The video was shot last autumn in Zermatt, in the Canton of Valais, recognizable by the iconic Matterhorn - our Matterhorn - which is the symbol of Switzerland, while De Niro was connected remotely from New York.
