In the 80s, as soon as the borders opened to Westerners, I was one of the first to travel there Burma, that's what it was called then, the name wasn't used Myanmar. It was a journey as hard and adventurous as it was wonderful, poetic, full of charm. I found a country in its medieval state, without petrol stations, without computers, without telephones, with very poor lighting; cities, villages, streets, at night they were all engulfed in darkness.
Immediately afterwards the country had a notable and rapid tourist development, excellent accommodation infrastructures were built. Traveling to Myanmar (Burma) has been for more than ten years now very comfortable and within everyone's reach.
There are excellent ones private airlines, modern and efficient, covering all internal routes. There are beautiful hotels, four and five stars, with services and international level catering. You can also take wonderful cruises along the Irrawaddy River, on modern, comfortable, but very romantic, flavorful boats, furnished in colonial style.
Burma is certainly one of the most beautiful countries and interesting ones from Southeast Asia. Both from a cultural and monumental point of view, and from an ethnic point of view. Tourism development has left the country's genuine charm intact. In Myanmar there are places, such as the valley in Bagan, Mingun, Kyaiktiyo (golden rock) and the villages on the Inle Lake, still capable of strongly exciting any traveller, even the most expert and inveterate. And for those who want to finish the tour with a relaxing stay by the sea, the splendid Ngapali beach offers wonderful resorts at affordable prices.
But please, it is essential to visit the country during the dry season, which runs from the end of October until March. The holidays of Christmas time they are a perfect moment for those who have work commitments. It is absolutely not recommended to travel to Myanmar during the rainy period, which runs from April to mid-October. The monsoon It's terrifying in those parts, the whole country ends up under water during the rainy season. The heat becomes scorching and the sultriness and humidity become unbearable. To enjoy the wonders of Burma it is really necessary to travel in the climatically favorable period.
