To discover what to see in Myanmar and travel to the small state located near Vietnam and Thailand, Italian citizens should present their Italian passport with at least 6 months of residual validity to the border authorities, in addition to the entry visa. The latter can be requested directly on the web by carrying out the appropriate procedure to obtain the e-visa. This, however, is only valid for tourist visas. For other types of visas, you will need to present a photocopy of your identity card, your passport, 2 passport photos and two completed forms at the Myanmar Embassy in Rome. Furthermore, it should not be forgotten that upon arrival in Myanmar it will be necessary to declare the possession of electronic devices or foreign currency exceeding 10 thousand US dollars.
And once all the administrative procedures have been completed and the border of the state of Myanmar has been crossed, one can only dedicate oneself to its rich history. Discovering what to see in Myanmar must start from its capital, Naypyidaw. The latter is a fairly modern city, which however also has some typical notes of a traditional South-East Asian city. There are several tall buildings that frame local Buddhist temples and monasteries. It's a city very cosmopolitan, which you should discover by walking along its busy streets. Furthermore, there are several places where you can eat typical Burmese cuisine at very reasonable prices for Italian tourists. And once you have discovered the capital of Burma enough, you will have to go outside.
The outlying lands, far from the big Burmese cities, can be considered as gods in their own right wild territories. The still unexplored jungle reigns everywhere and you can breathe an air of uncontamination. Traveling through the local roads of Myanmar you can get to the Shwedagon Paya, a complex of golden temples approximately 100 meters high. Most tourist guides recommend going to this area at dusk, in order to enjoy the sunset over the monumental local landscapes. The best thing would be to hire a tour guide who can explain to travelers the particularities of the temples and their history. These are true natural wonders. Not far away, there is also Inle Lake. Defined by many as one of the most fascinating lakes in Burma, it is located about 100 meters above sea level.
The lake is surrounded by mountains on almost all 4 sides and is a place of true natural and artistic beauty. To explore it, the locals use motor launches, thanks to which it is possible to reach the most suggestive points of the expanse of water. Traveling around Burma, it will also be possible to see the complex of Templi in Bagan. The latter have become part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and are part of a majestic complex of religious buildings that extends for almost 40 square kilometers. The whole area is also entirely dotted with majestic and ancient temples, including Buddhist monasteries they are the largest part. The Burmese authorities have recently defined it as a real open-air museum.
Speaking of the sacred and the religions of Myanmar, one cannot forget to mention the sacred hill of Burma, Sagaing. Answering the question of what to see in Myanmar, this hill represents the perfect answer. It rises a few kilometers away from the city of Mandalay and is almost entirely covered with monasteries of various kinds and golden temples. To get to the top of the hill you have to follow the route of various paths that surround the place at 360°. Furthermore, there are steep stone stairs that you have to walk very carefully to avoid falling. Also worth visiting locality of Ngapalu. It is a very calm place, where you can literally touch an atmosphere of peace and serenity. It is one of the favorite places for all those who would like to spend time in perfect solitude, away from their daily obligations and other people.
Among the many historical attractions of Myanmar we must not forget Mingun, the Ancient Royal City of Burma. It can only be reached by sea, sailing by boat from Mandalay. Inside it stands the Mingun Paya, – a large pagoda which should have reached 150 meters in height, but which remained unfinished due to many problems. Finally, among the last experiences to do in Myanmar, a visit to Mandalay Hill at sunset stands out. It is said that seeing how the sun sets on the surrounding forests is one of the most mystical and fascinating experiences you can have in life. And returning from Mandalay Hill, why not go to Yangon, where you can see the large statue of the sleeping Buddha? They say it is truly majestic.
