One of the most beautiful panoramic roads in Europe runs along a stretch of the Albanian Riviera.
The most emblematic point is the Logara Pass, the highest in the national park of the same name. A winding path that rises more than a thousand meters above the Ionian Mara, from where you can enjoy a stunning view.
Is coastal path main one, the SH-8, also called The shore, which is taken when driving from Vlora to Saranda (necessarily in this direction, to keep the path to the right) and enjoy the landscape from above.
From up here you can see the white beaches of the Albanian Ionian coast and the beautiful earthen pueblo, under which is the beach, considered one of the most beautiful in Albania, with its white sand and crystal clear waters.
The road runs through mountainous landscapes, olive and citrus plantations where you can stop. In fact, right in the heart of the park there is a tourist pueblo with a hotel and some cabins and some restaurants where you can make a culinary stop.
Given the height of the road, during the winter period, it is mandatory to carry chains or thermal tires on board. That is why in summer it is one of the essential routes if you visit Albania.
The pass is located in the middle of the complete mountain range, which begins on the Karaburun Peninsula and becomes increasingly higher as it goes south, almost on the border with Greece. The highest point, Cika, is 2.044 meters above sea level and is located a little south of Llogara.
Until 2009, this road was one lane and full of potholes. With an increasingly important tourist influx, it has been expanded and renovated, thus becoming one of the most beautiful that exists in Europe. It was an episode of the popular television show "Top Gear" filmed in 2010 that unveiled the beauty of this backcountry road. and has since become a tourist attraction.
