A small country off the beaten tourist track, Ecuador is becoming a much-appreciated destination for the international jet set.
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it is the country of the Galápagos Islands, a nature destination for bird watching and eco-tourism enthusiasts.
The beaches on the coast of Ecuador are still little frequented, true uncontaminated paradises, with few but very luxurious resorts. The coast of Ecuador reserves quite a few surprises.
The beaches around Esmeraldas, in the northern stretch of the Ecuadorian coast, are the most beautiful. Among these there is Atacames, considered the most beautiful and also the liveliest. Here they have equipped themselves with an international port where mega yachts dock and a small airport where private jets land, for tycoons and movie stars looking for quiet corners to spend their holidays. In addition to the American-style mega hotels, several much quieter designer boutique hotels have also recently emerged.
Esmeraldas is known in Ecuador as the "capital of rhythm" for the spread of dance clubs which are often located directly on the beach where you can let loose with the sound of salsa and marimba.
On the central coast, however, there is Montañita, the favorite beach for those with a passion for surfing. Once frequented by the communities of hippie, today the former fishing village, where people travel almost exclusively on foot or by bicycle, is the favorite destination for those looking for a radical chic holiday. Hidden among the lush vegetation there are several private villas that can be rented for holidays.
However, it is located in the South Isla de la Plata, considered a relative of the Galápagos. It is located within the Machalilla National Park whose forests are home to a varied fauna. If the hordes of tourists head towards the more famous islands, new travelers prefer the quiet and authenticity of Isla de la Plata, the Silver Island, which takes its name from the legend according to which Sir Francis Drake hid the right darling right here. There are no hotels, you just come to enjoy the silence and the unique nature in the world. And perhaps someone also to look for any chests full of doubloons and precious stones.
