THEisland of Praslin is located in the Seychelles archipelago and represents an unmissable destination for anyone who wants to visit these areas. Being also the second largest, the island now has many services suitable for tourists which - whatever the length of your stay - will make you enjoy all its riches to the fullest. The island of Praslin has an airport, while if you have to decide the period in which to spend your holidays, remember that this area is often crossed by monsoons coming from both the north-west and south-east.
In the center of Praslin, the magnificent excursion to discover the Valley of May, located in the heart of the island and home to numerous animal species ranging from robust giant prawns to tiny hummingbirds. The biodiversity of these areas is an indication of great value, so much so as to guarantee it a place in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the well-kept paths will allow you to walk among rare plant specimens, as well as allowing you to see truly unique animal species.
As regards the plant world, this Praslin reserve is the only one in the world together with the Curieuse islet where the coco de mer palms. The nuts of this plant are the largest in the world and their various shapes are singular and absolutely worth photographing. Speaking, however, of animals, the rarest species you might encounter is that of black parrot, a cute dark-coloured bird, recognizable thanks to the shape of the beak and other details. It is a bird that is very good at hiding, but if you are unable to photograph it it is very likely that you will at least hear its ringing call.
Do you want to learn some traditional customs of life on Praslin? Then visit the Black Pearl Museum on the outskirts of the Vallée de Mai. Here you can observe the only pearl farming place in the Indian Ocean and admire shining jewels obtained with them. Inside you will also find a shop to take home one of these rare specimens still made in a completely artisanal way and if curiosity keeps you here, also take a tour of the clam farming section to witness the feeding of these giant beings.
A few kilometers further north the transparent waters of Praslin await you, making it one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in the world, so relax on the sand of the so-called Côte d'Or, the Anse Volbert. The island is suitable for many types of activities, so if staying on the beach all day isn't for you, dedicate yourself to the joys of snorkeling to discover the beauty of the shallow waters or go windsurfing on days when the wind is blowing right.
Anse Volbert is a very busy area and many of Praslin's best-known hotels and restaurants overlook it.
You absolutely must also go to Anse Lazio which is recognized as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Seychelles. It is a long stretch of very fine sand interrupted by rocky areas made of red limestone rocks and which has higher waters than Anse Volbert. For a swim or for the inevitable snorkeling this beach is perfect, but be careful when the monsoons blow from the north-east as the waters can be quite rough.
Anse Lazio competes with Anse Georgette, a wonderful beach located within the Constance Lémuria resort which hotel guests can access for free whenever they wish, while outsiders must ask for a permit to enter.
From Anse Volbert you will surely have cast your gaze on the horizon. If so, you will have spotted a large green island that rises right in front of you: it is theisolated Curieuse. It is crossed by a small mountain range and contains some of the most beautiful beaches on Praslin at its foot. After paying a tax of 15 euros for access to the island and intended for its environmental protection, you will find many beaches to explore, but don't forget to say hello to the true owners of this wonder of nature, because in the hinterland the giant tortoises which have found a perfect habitat here for centuries.
