It was once the most beautiful hotel in the Seychelles. Luxurious, elegant, imposing. Built along the limestone rock of Mahè, overlooking the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean Port glaud, one of the most beautiful beaches in the archipelago, to the west of the island.
Panoramic sea view rooms. Infinity pool, perhaps one of the first in history. The colorful umbrellas jingled in the cocktails that were served by the pool or in the evening during the 'Copacabana' show. Beautiful women with very elegant outfits paraded along the corridors that led to the rooms. Hollywood moguls and stars have passed through its hall. The beautiful world of the Seventies, the first to be able to afford long-distance travel. In 1998 the Miss World competition even took place there.
THEHotel Sheraton it was a landmark in Seychelles. Then it was sold to a large international hotel group, which, rather than modernizing it according to the needs of new tourism, preferred to leave it as it was and build a new hotel directly on the beach. It is not clear whether customers preferred the new structure or whether they stopped selling its rooms, the fact is that this jewel is now completely abandoned. The signs indicate that it is private property and that entry is prohibited. Some protective barriers indicate to visitors that it is even dangerous to venture inside the structure.
Looking at it from the beach today you would call it a ecomonster. The new resorts now integrate with the nature of the Seychelles, they have natural colors and are all made of straw, you almost don't notice them unless you get closer and see the bungalows with infinity pools.
The Sheraton was (and still is) a gigantic cream-colored concrete structure that attracts curious tourists who come to spend their holidays on these paradisiacal shores.
The protective nets, however, were not enough to stop the curious onlookers sneak in to discover the abandoned hotel. Those who ventured in reported broken glass, destroyed floors and torn upholstery. The furniture has practically disappeared, taken away over the years - perhaps - by the inhabitants of the island.
Nothing remains of the nightclub, the casino and the presidential suite on the seventh floor. During the day the hotel is quite popular with curious tourists and former employees who show their families where they once worked. But in the evening, since there is no electricity, no one would ever dream of venturing out. However, someone approached it and said they felt a presence, heard noises and perhaps even music coming out of the hotel rooms. There are those who speak of a ghost. Some believe it, others are not influenced. But the mystery remains... no one ever went to check though.
