There is a place in Costa Rica dedicated to the care and breeding of baby sloths. They are abandoned or orphaned animals and incapable of living alone in nature because they are still too weak or immature.
This is the Sloth Institute which is located in the Manuel Antonio National Park on the west coast of Costa Rica, three hours' drive from the capital San José. The center works to help one of the country's symbolic animals, the sloth. Once the young have grown sufficiently, they can be reintroduced into their habitat.
Besides feed, care for and make animals independent still defenseless, the center deals with research and dissemination of information on these typical mammals of the rainforest. Mammals live in Central and South America, they are not monkeys, as most might think, but they are more distant relatives of the anteater and armadillo. AND' famous for its slowness (its name means slow foot) moves at a maximum speed of about 0,24 km per hour.
Among the initiatives implemented in sloth sanctuary there is the long-distance adoption of a puppy. For a small donation you will be able to receive detailed information about your little sloth and an adoption certificate.
