Kefalonia is a fairly large island so it is essential to choose the right place to stay.
Let's start by saying that a Southwest there are sandy beaches, for example in the area of the capital Argostoli, of Lassi and Lourdata. Instead in the eastern slope, area of Agia Efimia or Sami to Fiskardo, there are pebble beaches and many beautiful coves with transparent water.
And this is already a first indication on where to stay in Kefalonia based on the preference on the type of beaches, whether pebble or sandy.
If you only have one week available then it is better to choose a central location to stay in Kefalonia, Lassi or Argostoli to the West, Sami or Agia Efimia to the East. This way you will be well positioned to get around the island.
If, on the other hand, you have more time, you can think of sharing the holiday, making a few days in the West area, to visit all the beaches of that side up to the South and the peninsula of Lixouri, and a few days to East to see the beautiful beaches of that stretch of coast.
Keep in mind that every day ferries depart from Pessada to Zakynthos (about 1 hour and a half), you can therefore consider doing a few days also in the splendid Zakynthos.
But let's see in detail which are the best locations where to stay in Kefalonia.
