The country that gave birth to Hans Christian Andersen, one of the most famous fairy tale writers of all time, is still today a magical place, where you can go back to being a child. TO Copenhagen, capital of Denmark, reliving the fairy tales that enchanted us at an early age is truly possible.
The journey into the world of fairy tales actually begins in Odense, the city where Andersen was born. Here, the actor Torben Iversen he decided to dedicate his life to the famous author of great classics that marked our childhood. After having carried his show around for many years, the Hans Christian Andersen Parade, Iversen returned home and started organizing special guided tours at the Andersen Museum, a real dive back in time to when we were kids.
The surprises, of course, don't end there. Copenhagen in every respect deserves the title of fairytale capital of the world, and not only for its beautiful sculpture of the Little Mermaid which recalls one of the characters most loved by children. Among the heroes of Scandinavian culture, the Vikings stand out, legendary warriors from Northern Europe who have guarded an incredible cultural heritage for centuries. That same heritage of which the designer Jim Lyngwild he is a proud descendant, as he belonged to the Viking royal family.
Lyngvild, who has always fought against the stereotypes that want Vikings of barbaric and brutal executioners dedicated only to violence, he wanted to give tourists a different point of view on the people from which he himself originates. And so, spreading more and more the northern culture to Faaborg (the city in which he has lived for many years), has built a real Viking castle and even a temple dedicated to the pagan Nordic gods, which opened its doors in 2016.
But let's get back to Copenhagen, where living a fairy tale is truly a real adventure. Returning to childhood means losing all inhibitions, recovering the freedom and innocence that now seem lost forever. And where can you find such an atmosphere, if not in Christiania? A small neighborhood in the Danish capital, it was founded in the 70s by a woman hippie community, who here gave life to a truly (almost) independent town.
Among the rebellious folds of Christiania, the historical retellings of Faaborg and the enchanting atmospheres of Copenhagen, diving into a fairy tale seems truly possible.
