In spring the show begins: nature awakens, and with it many splendid flowers finally bloom, releasing an incredible scent into the air. Their colors are a true marvel, leaving us speechless. What if Holland is the home of tulips, there is another small town – exactly at the antipodes – where the atmosphere is almost the same. Immense fields of flowers enrich a dream panorama, on the outskirts of a charming town that welcomes many tourists every year.

Holambra and its beautiful tulips

La tulips blooming it is an incredible sight, admired by many people: it is in the first weeks of spring that these splendid flowers offer their intoxicating wonder, a true masterpiece of nature. Even in Italy there are many places where you can peek at their beauty, but the real little Holland is probably on the other side of the world. We are talking about Holambra, a delightful Brazilian town born only a few decades ago, but already full of surprises waiting to be discovered. Including, of course, the lovely tulips.

Holambra is an ancient Dutch colony, Founded in 1948 by a group of Catholic immigrants who found shelter at the Fazenda Ribeirão, which was quite flourishing at the time. Its very name is a reference to its roots: Holambra is in fact the acronym – in Portuguese – of Holland, America and Brasil. But he doesn't just bear the initials of his European ancestors. The town has a incredible natural heritage, in the form of splendid flowers that enliven the landscape in spring and attract thousands of tourists from every corner of the world.

Tulips, of course. But not only that: geraniums, chrysanthemums, roses, daisies, sunflowers, gerberas and much more. THE flower meadows of Holambra they soon became a real tourist attraction, making the name of the town famous internationally. It actually takes place here expoflora, the largest flower exhibition in Latin America. The event is held every year in September (i.e. at the beginning of spring, since the seasons are reversed. We are on the other side of the world, remember?), and is an opportunity to showcase the enchanting ornamental plants of which the city is among the largest producers ever.

The beauties of Holambra, little Holland

The magic of flowers is undoubtedly what is most beautiful about Holambra, but there are many other little gems to explore. For lovers of outdoor activities, there is nothing better than a nice ride: la Flower Cycle Path offers three routes, each renamed according to the main symbol of the place (the Via dei Tulipani, the Via dei Girasoli and the Via delle Rose). Unmissable, then, is a souvenir photo under theimposing Dutch mill, called Povos Unidos. At 38 and a half meters tall, it is the largest in all of Latin America - and is obviously a faithful reproduction of those we can find in Holland.

To take a dive into the traditions of Holambra, you can visit the Historical and Cultural Museum. Inside it contains over 2000 photos and other ancient testimonies, with which to retrace the history of the first settlers who founded a splendid town right here. And to ensure you don't miss anything, all you have to do is dedicate yourself to gastronomic tour: in the heart of Holambra there is an entire street made up of restaurants, pubs, cafes and pastry shops, where unique menus are offered that can satisfy even the most refined palates.
