For Lia's birthday we chose to explore an area of Tuscany that we didn't know very much, but that has remained in our hearts: the Vald'Orcia.
In particular we have dedicated ourselves to the expolarization of cities such as Chianciano, Pienza and Montepulciano. The latter is the protagonist of the short video where I will tell you about our walk through the center of the Tuscan village.
If you have followed us on our social channels, Facebook e Instagram, you have surely seen a taste of this beautiful town. Montepulciano is a medieval village located on the top of a hill in the lower Tuscany area, about 60 km kilometers from Siena.
Montepulciano is among the best villages in Italy, with ancient churches, Renaissance palaces and elegant squares.
Outside the walls, we find the Church of Sant'Agnese, the Medici Fortress of Sangallo and the Porta di Gracciano, from where you enter the historic center.
The main street of Motepulciano is the Corso, which runs through the center and from which hidden alleys branch off. The elegant Corso di Montepulciano, home to sumptuous palaces, reaches up to Piazza Grande nerve center of the city, with the Cathedral and the Town Hall. From the top of the Town Hall tower you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
But the flagship of Montepulciano are its churches, like Santa Maria dei Servi, the Sanctuary of San Biagio, or the Church of Sant'Agostino. Just in front of the Church of Sant'Agostino, the curious one stands out Pulcinella Tower.
Montepulciano is also famous for its wine, among the best known is the Nobile di Montepulciano, you will find several wineries where you can taste it and where you can also buy typical Tuscan products.
Finally let's say that Montepulciano enjoys a strategic position to visit this part of Tuscany, you can admire villages such as Pienza, Bagno Vignoni, Montalcino and other charming towns.
Curiosity: recently Montepulciano has also become a very popular tourist destination for fans of the famous film Twilight, it is in fact here that the second film of the saga was shot, New Moon.
